We are headed to Egypt to meet Joseph!

Welcome to the Egypt VBS Volunteers page! Below, you can find info about volunteering at VBS this year.  If one of our VBS teams sound right for you, please fill out the registration form and we will be in touch.  Thanks!

Volunteer Teams and Info

Would you like to help serve with us at VBS this year?  We have several teams that make this event happen for the kids that see us each year during VBS.  Registration is at the bottom of the page.

*PLEASE NOTE: Middle School students (Grades 7-8) must volunteer in a station unless otherwise approved by the middle school minister to travel with a tribe as a helper.  All 6th grade students must serve in a station for VBS 2025 unless approved to do otherwise by the children's minister.

Volunteer assignments are filled on first-come, first-served basis and when a team becomes full, the second choice of the potential volunteer is honored.  Each Marketplace station needs a minimum of one volunteer for the week.  We anticipate a need for at least 3 preschool Group Leaders, 3 preschool Group Helpers, 7 elementary Group Leaders, and 7 elementary Group Helpers.

Adult volunteers (age 18 and older) will be asked to provide the church with information for a background check (the church will provide you with a separate form if this is needed; background checks are performed at no cost to the volunteer).  To serve at VBS this summer, we ask that you either be a church member or have regularly attended/been involved at Wilkesboro Baptist for at least six months.  If these circumstances do not apply to you and you would still like to volunteer at VBS (or if you have questions), please contact the children's minister to arrange an in-person meeting (or have questions answered).

Team Descriptions:
Registration/Welcome Team: Helps welcome kids and families, distributes name tags/security bracelets, gets kids to the right places, registers kids for VBS, manages registration during VBS (including attendance and child's info), helps the Safety Team (and others) as needed.

Safety Team: Helps make sure VBS is safe and monitors first aid needs during the night. Training in first aid, CPR, emergency management, and/or a medical/health field is a plus for this team (we would like to have a nurse, doctor, and/or EMT on site each night to anchor the first aid side of things).  This team also patrols buildings and parking lots to make sure everyone is safe and sound.

Family Group Leaders: Group Leaders are adults and high school youth that provide leadership and guidance for a crew of 5-10 kids during VBS.  You build a team, along with your Group Helper, that learns, serves, and grows together over the course of VBS.  GL's carry the tribe's backpack, make sure their tribe members are checked in and out each night, and make VBS amazing by participating in stations with your group.  GL's also lead a nightly opening "meeting" and closing time with their group.

Family Group Helpers: Group Helpers are adults and high school youth (or 7th and 8th graders with approval) that support and help guide a crew of 5-10 kids during VBS.  You build a team, along with your Group Leader, that learns, serves, and grows together over the course of VBS.  GH's assist the Group Leader and make VBS amazing by participating in stations with your group.

***Family Groups are named after cities in ancient Egypt.  They give children and adults a taste of Egypt’s culture and identity.  A Family Group is a group of up to 10 people, led by a Group Leader and a Group Helper.  The VBS gives symbols for each Family Group (based on what we know about these ancient cities).  You will also share in some "family time traditions" with your Egyptian Family during the week.

Joseph’s Journey: This focused team helps bring the Bible stories to life as Joseph shares about his time in prison and ends his story with the pending journey of his family to Egypt.  Groups will change every 15 minutes, switching with the Pyramid Playground.  Joseph needs 2 helpers at this station. Dressing in Bible times costumes is necessary for this team (as they "live" in Egypt).

Pyramid Playground: This focused team helps kids experience a variety of games and activities from the Egyptian past.  Children get to interact with one another and learn more about teamwork by playing these games together.  Groups here will change every 15 minutes, switching with the Families at Joseph’s Journey.  We will need at least 2 leaders for this VBS station.  Dressing in Bible times costumes is necessary for this team (as they "live" in Egypt).

Marketplace Team: This team will oversee all the cool stuff from the Egyptian Marketplace that kids make and take home this year at VBS.  Crafting and History experience is a plus for team members.  This team interacts with all groups each night.  Members of this team play characters and should dress up in Bible costumes each night.  Stations here include the toy shop, brickmaking, barbershop/salon, embalmer’s workshop, jewelry shop, basket weaver, and food market (snacks).  Families will spend a total of 30 minutes in the Marketplace each night at VBS. Dressing in Bible times costumes is necessary for this team (as they "live" in Egypt).

Celebration Team: This team leads the nightly opening and closing worship, teaches motions for songs, and helps create a fun, welcoming, positive atmosphere for worship and learning at VBS.

Other VBS Volunteer Information:
Snack Supper before VBS for Volunteers and their families will take place from 5:00 - 5:30 pm each night in the Fellowship Hall.  We ask that you sign up for Snack Supper when you register as a volunteer and the cost is by donation each night.  We ask that all volunteers enter through the portico door before 5:30 pm and meet in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 pm for news, announcements, and a prayer.

The main doors will open each night at 5:45 pm (all doors will be locked until then).  This is to help with crowd control and safety at VBS.  Volunteers will be checked in each night through the portico door (children of volunteers attending VBS will still need to be checked in through the main registration location beginning at 5:45 pm).  Group Leaders and Helpers are expected to be in their Family’s seating area in the Sanctuary by 5:45 pm ready to greet kids.  All station leaders and helpers are expected to be in their stations by 5:50 pm each night to prep for Groups. VBS begins with Opening Celebration at 6:00 pm and will end at 8:00 pm with the Closing Celebration.

What Wkids Expects From All VBS Volunteers:
1. Christ-like role models who show good manners, use appropriate indoor/outdoor behavior, and treat others with respect.  All VBS volunteers should motivate, encourage, and reassure kids whenever needed.  They should also call kids by their names and help them feel welcome in groups and at stations.

2. Servant leaders who fulfill the responsibilities of their selected volunteer post for the entire week of VBS.  Please immediately notify the children's minister or the Registration Team if you will not be able to fulfill your VBS responsibilities.

3. Be cautious and safe at all times, not placing any volunteer in the position of being alone in a room with any child for the volunteer's own safety and the safety of the children.  Always follow the rule of two (two adults with all children at all times).
