Wkids Parent Commissioning

What is Parent Commissioning?

Parent Commissioning is an important milestone for a family at Wilkesboro Baptist.  We want to partner with you and your growing family, celebrate life together, and connect you with the

support and resources you need on this journey.  You have likely landed on this page because you have recently welcomed a new child into your home through birth or adoption.  We are excited for your new family member(s) and look forward to partnering with you as your child grows.  It is a blessing for us all to be a part of that journey together!

We use the term "Parent Commissioning" to reflect the church's recognition and support of the essential work that parents are appointed to do in Scripture.  This time of commissioning acknowledges publicly to the church (and others) that parents are choosing to commit

themselves to raising their children in a way that reflects what Scripture teaches about family and faith.  The most important thing you can pass on to your child is faith...the love and knowledge that God made them, loves them, and wants to have a relationship with them. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 gives parents (and all of us) a picture of what building a lasting faith looks like in the lives of children.  Due to the relational nature of this commitment, Parent Commissioning is an opportunity that is encouraged for parents of children that regularly attend and/or are members of Wilkesboro Baptist Church.

When is the next Parent Commissioning event?

The next Parent Commissioning event will be Wednesday, June 4th at 6:00 pm.  It will begin in the Sanctuary and be followed by an interactive celebration and reception in the Fellowship Hall.  Parents may choose to participate in this special time of commissioning with a child of any age and with one or more children (we do recommend that the child be at least six weeks old by the date of Parent Commissioning).  You must register ahead for this event to participate with your family.

What do I do after I register for Parent Commissioning?

We want to help you keep a bigger picture in your mind...who is this amazing child going to become?  As you prepare for this special day in the life of your family, we would encourage you to do three things...

  1. Pick a life verse for your child.  What Bible verse (or verses) describe your hopes and prayers for your son or daughter?  We will ask you to share this verse as a part of Parent Commissioning.  Suggestions to get you started: Joshua 1:9, 1 Samuel 1:27-28, Psalm 78:4-7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Proverbs 22:6, Luke 2:52.
  2. Choose or compose a blessing for your child (and begin using it daily).  Using a blessing, such as the blessing found in Numbers 6:24-26, can be a powerful reminder for your child of God's love and provision (and yours).  In its simplest form, a blessing is a prayer that you will pray for and with your child as he/she grows.  This helps your family focus daily on the gift from God that your child is (see Psalm 127:3).
  3. As you continue to pray for your child and family, consider the ways that Wilkesboro Baptist can support you in your family's journey...and please share them with us.  You will be the primary faith models and leaders in your child's life.  We want to be there to walk with you, encourage you, and help you lead your child to the discovery of his/her own faith by partnering with your family along the way.  For this reason, Parent Commissioning is an opportunity that is encouraged for parents and children that regularly attend and/or are members of Wilkesboro Baptist Church.

Please use the form below to register each child individually for Parent Commissioning.  We use this information to personalize your child's gifts and prepare for the commissioning service.  We will also ask for your child's picture and a family picture for the slides used in the service.  We will use the ESV translation of the Life Verse you select unless you specify another one.

Deadline for registration for this event is 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Parent Commissioning Registration

We do plan to film/photograph and share this special event with the church via the next Member Meeting and or a church service.
